RAISING A READER MASSACHUSETTS LAUNCHES FREE “LIVE! WITH AN AUTHOR” LIVESTREAMING SERIES TO BRING READING INTO THE HOME AND PROMOTE LITERACY

Ben Mezrich, Tonya Mezrich, Ace Atkins, David Sinclair, Amy Cuddy, Rob Cocuzzo, Claire Messud, James Wood among authors participating in livestreaming series

BOSTON, April 21, 2020 – Local libraries may be closed, but you can have a bestselling author visit your living room as part of “Live! With An Author,” a regular livestreaming series being produced by Raising A Reader Massachusetts, a Boston-based early literacy nonprofit organization. The live series will feature live conversations with a broad range of bestselling authors. The series is free and requires advance registration at www.raisingareaderma.org/live​.

Each episode will feature a different author in an engaging live conversation moderated by a special guest. Viewers will be able to submit questions to be read and answered live. The livestreaming series will launch April 23 at 6 p.m. EDT with Boston-based authors Ben and Tonya Mezrich. To date, participating authors include:

  • Ben and Tonya Mezrich (4/23, 6 p.m. EDT); Ben Mezrich is the author of 20 books including the New York Times bestseller “Bringing Down the House,” which was adapted into the hit movie “21”; “The Accidental Billionaires,” which was adapted into the Oscar-winning movie “The Social Network.” Tonya Mezrich is co-author of the wildly successful “Charlie Numbers” series and recently launched the hit television show “Boston’s Red Carpet” on NESN.
  • Ace Atkins (4/28, 6 p.m. EDT) is an award-winning crime fiction author who has written nine books in the Colson series and continued Robert B. Parker’s iconic Spenser character after Parker’s death in 2010, adding seven bestselling novels in that series.
  • Rob Cocuzzo (5/5, 6 p.m. EDT) is the longtime editor of N Magazine on Nantucket and the author of “Tracking the Wild Coomba: The Life of Legendary Skier Doug Coombs” and “The Road to San Donato.”
  • David Sinclair (5/12, 6 p.m. EDT) is a professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School. One of the leading innovators of his generation, he has been named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world and one of the 50 most influential people in health care. He is the author of the bestselling book “Lifespan,” which explores human longevity.
  • Amy Cuddy (5/19, 6 p.m. EDT) is a social psychologist and one of 50 Women Who Are Changing the World by Business Insider. Her 2012 Ted Talk is the second most-viewed talk in TED’s history. She is the author of the bestselling book “Presence.”
  • Claire Messud/James Wood (5/26, 6 p.m. EDT); Claire Messud is a recipient of Guggenheim and Radcliffe Fellowships and the Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She is the author of six works of fiction including her most recent novel, “The Burning Girl.” James Wood is a staff writer and book critic at The New Yorker. He is a winner of the National Magazine Award for reviews and criticism. He was the chief literary critic at the Guardian and a senior editor at The New Republic. He is the author if several books included collected essays and his latest novel, “Upstate.” He is a professor of literary criticism at Harvard University.

The mission of Raising A Reader Massachusetts is to close the literacy opportunity gap among children ages birth to age six in high-need communities in Massachusetts by helping families develop shared home reading habits, laying the groundwork for a lifetime of learning, success and productive, responsible citizenship. Through partnerships with over 120 community-based organizations, Raising A Reader Massachusetts provides access to high quality books and parent/caregiver education.
